Hurricane Update!

Hey guys...just a quick post to let you know that St.Vincent and the Grenadines along with Barbados and Martinique are under a Hurricane watch. The Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, addressed the nation at around 6 a.m this morning and nationals are on full alert bracing for Tropical Storm Tomas who is expected to be a Category 1 hurricane by the time it hits St. Vincent. I'll post a link to the most recent report from MSNBC.

Tropical Storm Tomas, nearly a hurricane, battered Barbados Saturday, damaging homes and downing power lines as it headed toward the northern Windward Islands in the eastern Caribbean, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Packing top sustained winds of 70 miles per hour, Tomas swept over the Caribbean's easternmost island of Barbados, blowing roofs off some houses, causing widespread power outages and blocking some roads with debris, residents said.
Some residents left their homes to shelter in schools and churches, but no deaths were reported.
At 8 a.m. EDT, Tomas was located about 70 miles southeast of St. Lucia, heading westwards, and it was expected to strengthen into a hurricane later Saturday as it moved into the eastern Caribbean sea, the hurricane center said.
Tomas is the 19th named storm of what has been a very active 2010 Atlantic Hurricane season.
A hurricane warning was in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia and Martinique, while a tropical storm warning was posted for Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and Dominica.
Far to the north, recently upgraded Hurricane Shary, the 11th hurricane of this season, raced northeastwards out over the central Atlantic after earlier passing east of the British overseas island territory of Bermuda.
No serious damage was reported in the territory, which is a popular resort and global insurance hub.
With top sustained winds of 75 miles per hour , Shary was a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson five-step scale of intensity, but was expected to weaken later Saturday and dissipate by late Sunday, the Miami-based hurricane center said.
The busy 2010 Atlantic hurricane season has produced 11 hurricanes, five of them major, but the United States has escaped a significant hurricane landfall so far.

Are you a blogger? Here's your chance to Win 1 of 3 M.A.C. Cosmetics $50 Gift Cards !!!!

So I'm one of those persons that like to reseach EVERYTHING when it comes to beauty products that I'm interested in. How do I do that? The internet of course!!! I've found that real feedback from real persons using these products assist me in making an informed decision about whether or not it's something I should use. I mean, while makeup is something personal that you need to try yourself to see if you like, the general feedback on a product can usually let you know how well it performs over a broad spectrum of users.

And where better to find these users than in one place where MU gurus and product junkies alike converge, right?? Well Makeup Talk is one such place!!! I've been a member for the past 5 years and although I'm not an active poster, I troll (lol) the site daily reading reviews on products and feedback from the members. They've recently revamped the website too, so links for swaps, reviews and general feedback are easy to find! An to celebrate this, they're offering members (who blog) a chance to win one (1) of three gift ards from MAC worth $50.00 (USD). Give them a look and see what's up Contest Link

Good luck to you all!

Perfect Plum Lips

ok so this post is a comparison for enigmatic-rambles. She just posted on her blog about No 17 New Black Lipstick (which i now need to get) which IMO is a good dupe for MAC's Cunning lipstick....except that Cunning is a bit more 'berry' on me....sort of like Sleek's Perfect Plum Pout Polish (which I happen to be wearing today). SO I took a few pics (with my phone so it's crappy but I'm at work lol). For those of you who have Cunning....what do you think? I lined my lips with MAC's Nightmoth liner and then swiped on a bit of Perfect Plum.....very work wearable too!

MAC Mineralise Skin-Finish Natural- Review

I love this powder! A lot! I've been using it for about two years now and it's the one thing from MAC that I've purchased over and over again because it's just so lovely. I have it in both Dark and Deep Dark and use it maily to set my foundation, by itslef on days when I don't feel like applying foundation, as a countour (the darker shade) or as a crease contour shade for my eyes...it really is THAT versatile.

Here's what the MAC website had to say:

A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day.
US$24.50 Now in my experience, this product gives you a fantastic glow, whether worn alone or as a setting powder However, I've found that recently it hasn't been staying true to it's 'natural-matte' finish claim for as long as I would like it to be. Unfortunately, due to my oily skin I have to keep the blot papers handy or my face ends up looking like an oil slick. I'm thinking that it's because I'm in a tropical country so it gets oily faster. That said, i still LOVE the finish of this product. Definitely gets two thumbs up from me!

ELF Powder Brush [Review]

Hey guys!! :)

So I've had this brush for about a year and it's my absolute favorite brush to use for liquid foundation or even powder products.  I own the MAC 187 and I must say that although it works pretty well, I prefer the ELF brush because the bristles are a little bit more denser and so very soft! It feels amazing on your face. I've even used it to apply blush and bronzer when I'm in a rush and can't put my hands on my other brushes quickly enough. That makes it one of if not THE most versatile brush that I own. And the cost??? If you're in the US it's just $3.00 and if you're in the UK it's 3.50GBP.

As far as I know you can get them in some stores in the US, but in the UK you can only access it via the ELF UK website. Have no fear though! These guys (the UK store) have the best customer service ever!!!!!! Let me know if you get your hands on it, or if you already own one.

xoxo

New Fragrance Alert!!

So almost a year after the Release of her fragrance Rush, Beyonce Knowles would be releasing the Follow up....get it.....Heat Rush (they could have been more creative maybe?).

I purchased a bottle of Heat and love it enough to consider getting this one when it's released. It reminds me a little of Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior (Which I LOVE) but it's a little more sensual and 'grown up'.

According to a report, Heat Rush will be hitting stores in February of 2011 and is aimed to be a more “everyday fragrance” rather than an overtly sexy scent like her first perfume Heat.
Here's the Ad for it that I found on youtube:

Heat Rush

Have any of you tried Heat? Would you give the follow up a go? Let me know!

NYX Lipsticks...finally!

So I had to defer Law School for a year due to me not getting my loans processed on time to meet the deadlines set by the University. I was pretty bummed about it at first because I LOVE London (and the easy access to MU) and I miss popping into MAC or even Superdrug and Boots and playing with the testers. It's not that we don't have cosmetics stores where I'm from but 1. cosmetics aren't huge here, 2. they sell some knock off brands and 3. brands like MAC are triple the cost that they are in other parts of the world. However, there was one place that I knew that sells NYX cosmetics and I'm pretty sure that it's popularity hasn't spread here they way they have in the US and the UK so I knew their prices wouldn't be bad. I was right! I finally got my hands on the NYX round lipsticks and I picked up 4 (I didn't like the other colors), two of which I'd been lusting after for ages! And they were $4.95 EC a pop which is actually cheaper than they are being sold in the US and the UK. How cool is that?? :D

Plus I picked up some 'Nars' lipglosses.....clearly knockoffs but I loved the colors so got them cause I'm an addict like that :)
L-R: Indian Pink, Honey, Thalia, Goddess (sorry about the bad lighting...took them with my phone)
Knock-off Nars...they were pretty so I bought them lol

My first EOTD

Here's what I came up with playing around with my shadows last night. I wanted to do a bronzy/peachy look to go with my outfit...as it's still summer where I am :)

Face: Nars Sheer Glow in Cadiz, MAC MSF Natural in Dark

Cheeks: Sleek Blush in Coral (LOVE this stuff)

Eyes: Elf eyelid primer, MAC Rubenesque paint-pot, MAC Melon Pigment, MAC Gold stroke pigment, MAC Embark e/s, Catrice Kohl kajal in 010 ultra black (best black liner i've worked with....soft and easy to spread.....another goodie from  Mylanqolia), 2 True twist n' Line eye definer no. 15 and Maybelline's Falsies Mascara.

Lips: MAC Prep & Prime Lip, Rimmel Exaggerate lipliner (brown...too lazy to check the name lol) MAC's Ravishing lipstick and MAC's lipgloss in Beaute (LE from a holiday collection).
