The Gym Thing

So last year around this time, I was hunkered down in london freezing my booty off wishing I was back in the sunshiney caribbean. However, I had opted to spend Christmas in the UK as exams were right around the corner and I couldn't allow my home-sickness to distract from it. The me, in London though, was not as active as the me pre-UK. Now I've never been naturally skinny. In the days when I weighed 128lbs, it came from months of hard work (translation:hours in the gym) and a strict diet. Two years later, I was diagnosed with PCOS, a condition that affected my already messed up metabolism and left me feeling perpetually tired. Added to the expense of the gyms and health studios in London.....I returned to St. Vincent 20lbs heavier than I was when I left (egads!).

For months I agonized about going back to the gym. I fantasized about walking in and having to face people that knew me at my fittest and having to deal with the 'oh my God, you gained so much weight' comments. Sounds simple enough, but for someone that grew up ALWAYS hearing about weight, I was terrified!!!! So, I hired a personal trainer who didn't need a gym for us to workout. Unfortunately....he's very good..and very in demand....thus his schedule and mine didn't always mesh....and our sessions became few and in between (I secretly think he was also frustrated that I wasn't as fit as I used to be as he was the one that used to train me before but I could be wrong).

But to be honest...I got tired of eating like a rabbit hoping to starve the weight off when I KNEW that what I needed was the exercise....and so today....I took the step. Grabbed my gym clothes (along with oversized t-shirt to hide the booty), paid my subscription and had my first work out in over a year! And guess what?? I loved it! SO much so that I'm planning to revert to my gym rat ways...maybe set up camp there...spend a few hours working out instead of stuck behind the computer watching episodes of Criminal Minds...ok I'm addicted to that show but they're gonna have to share my spare time with a long lost love.

Face time

Hey guys....just listing the products that I use to take care of my skin. I had terrible breakouts in my teens but have pretty good skin now due to the fact that I took the time to actually learn my skin, what it likes, doesn't like- and I don't get pulled into products that are hyped up. I use what works for me :)

I've found that Neutrogena and Oil of Olay products works best for my skin. To cleanse, I use the Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash & Mask

and to scrub I use Olay Clarify and Cleanse Daily Scrub

Moisturizers (Day):

Oil of Olay Complete Care Moisturising Fluid

Olay - Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum (night)

Neutrogena Oil Free Anti-Acne Moisturizer

What do you guys use?

My 3 week Challenge!

Hey this post is a little bit different. I'm about to take a 3 week challenge (challenging myself) and do a juice detox starting tomorrow (11th November). For about 3 weeks I'll be consuming strictly juices made from fruits and vegetables for breakfast, with a salad for lunch and another juice for dinner. It's my effort to detox my body and (hopefully) shed a few pounds. I'm also hoping to kick the red meat habit and thought that this would be a great way to start. Hopefully I don't cave by the time this is done....I figured I'd post daily so that I'm accountable to 'someone' lol.

What about you guys? Anyone ever tried juicing? Or did a detox? Feel free to leave your tips here!

The best Body Moisturizer....ever!

I'm a fan of body butters. I love soft. smooth skin and I'm not a fan of perfumed lotions. I started using Palmers Cocoa Butter after I ran out of my Vaseline Body Butter and I have to say that I'm impressed! I use it heavily at night before bed for extra moisture (love it for my feet too!) and lightly during the day. It's not too greasy and doesn't leave me feeling like an oil slick. I'm not sure what it does for stretch marks though as that's not the reason why  bought it, but I'll monitor that situation and amend this post n the future. Also, I'm currently in the Caribbean (hot!!!!) and this still manages to sink into my skin (and doesn't make me sweat). I LOVE this stuff!!!! :D
